Description
Lesbian Visibility Week is a week-long event devoted to raising awareness around lesbian issues and identities, raising the profile of the lesbian community and celebrating. It is a combination of cultural programming, workshops addressing current and impending needs, awards ceremonies and social events. It is co-sponsored by the West Hollywood Lesbian Visibility Committee and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center and is funded in part by the city of West Hollywood. This collection contains materials pertaining to the planning and execution of Lesbian Visibility Week in West Hollywood, California for 1990 through 1992.
Background
Lesbian Visibility Week is a week-long event devoted to raising awareness around lesbian issues and identities, raising the profile of the lesbian community and celebrating. It is a combination of cultural programming, workshops addressing current and impending needs, awards ceremonies and social events. It is cosponsored by the Lesbian Visibility Committee and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center and is funded in part by the city of West Hollywood. The West Hollywood Lesbian Visibility Committee (WeHo LVC)was established in 1989 to bring awareness to lesbians living and loving in West Hollywood, California, one of the largest lesbian communities in America. WeHo LVC endeavors to bring justice where injustices are being carried out in the lesbian community and to act as a resource for women in need.
