Contains organizational documents from, and trangender-related articles, news clippings, and publications collected by TransGender San Francisco (TGSF), a nonprofit dedicated to serving the educational, social, and recreational needs of the transgendered community.

According to a pamphlet about Educational TV Channel, in the spring of 1982 a small group of cross dressers in the San Francisco Bay Area, wanting a safe place to meet, began getting together on a regular basis at various individuals’ homes. They chose the name ETVC for the group, and as word got around it grew and established regular monthly socials at a San Francisco restaurant. In less than a year their theme parties were averaging 40 to 50 people, and ETVC had become established as one of the best places in the Bay Area for cross dressers and transsexuals to go for a night out. In 1983 ETVC established a set of bylaws and a formal structure. In 1984 they added Committees, a Couples Group, information pamphlets, and card parties. Membership grew to over 100. Between 1985 and 1987 they added their ETVC libraries and new activities. In 1993 they began their TS Seminars and, in 1994, they received non-profit status. The organization changed its name to Transgender San Francisco in 1998. The organization is dedicated to serving the educational, social, and recreational needs of the transgendered community. TGSF is also dedicated to educating the general public about transgenderism and promoting a positive image of transgendered persons among the general public. The transgendered community includes all transgendered persons, their family and friends, and anyone with a sincere interest in the transgender community.
