Description
The bulk of this collection consists of long letters "Hattie" Pease wrote to "Friends at home" while she was in Micronesia. One letter is from Honolulu (May-June, 1877) and there are two folders containing pages from her journal.
Background
Harriet Almira Sturtevant Pease was born in Westport, New York and educated at North Granville Seminary in New York. In April 1877 she married Edmund Morris Pease, M.D., just a few months before they set sail on their voyage as missionaries. Most of their missionary work was done at Ebon in Micronesia.
