The Barton Myers papers span approximately 800 linear feet and date from circa 1968 to circa 2004. The collection contains architectural drawings and reprographic copies, photographs, contracts, specifications, and correspondence.

Barton Myers was born in 1934 in Norfolk, Virginia. From 1952-1956 he attended the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Science. In 1961, Myers went back to school to get his Master’s degree in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1964. Just out of school, Barton Myers found work as a draftsman for Louis I. Kahn in Philadelphia. Two years later, in 1968, Myers launched his architectural career in Canada by opening up his own firm in Ontario. In 1975, Myers moved his firm to Los Angeles, where he continues to practice today. Aside from practicing architecture Myers taught at the University level. He was a visiting professor at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, at the University of Pennsylvania and at the College of Architecture and Environmental Design at Arizona State University. He currently teaches at the University of California, Los Angeles, a position he has held since 1980. Barton Myers’ more notable projects include: the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and the Tempe Center for the Arts.
