Background
Herbert James Wrightson was born on Dec. 20, 1869
in Sunderland, England; studied at the Leipzig
Conservatory with Salomon Jadassohn and Carl
Reinecke; settled in the U.S. in 1897; taught in
Philadelphia, Chicago, and elsewhere; works
include a symphony, 15 organ pieces, 29 piano
works, and 144 songs, some included in various
hymnals; published Elements of the theory of music
(1921); he died on Dec. 24, 1949 in West Lebanon,
N.Y.
