Description
Tom B. Carvey (b.1922) was the first president of the Palos Verdes Democratic Club (1948), secretary of the Democratic State Central Committee, a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions (1956, 1960, 1964, and 1968), chairman of the first California Democratic Council State Issues Program, and third president of the California Democratic Council (1961-65). The collection consists of correspondence, minutes, election campaign literature, publications, clippings, photographs, and tapes related to California Democratic Party politics between 1948-67 and the California Democratic Council (CDC) during Carvey's years as president (ca. 1962-65).

Carvey was born in 1922; attended Stanford University; engineer, Hughes Aircraft Company; first president, Palos Verdes Democratic Club, 1948; secretary, Democratic State Central Committee; delegate, Democratic National Conventions, 1956, 1960, 1964, and 1968; chairman, first California Democratic Council State Issues Program; third president of the California Democratic Council, 1961-65.An aeronautical engineer for Hughes Aircraft Company and graduate of Stanford University, Tom B. Carvey, Jr., began his democratic Party political activity in 1948 as the first president of the Palos Verdes Democratic Club. His subsequent activities included serving as secretary of the Democratic State Central Committee, delegate to the 1956, 1960, 1964, and 1968 national conventions, chairman of the first California Democratic Council State Issues Program, and CDC's third president, 1961-65.
