This collection comprises materials from an Orange County, California community planning study conducted from 1965-1978, which
brought together planners from both campus and community to study a variety of subjects, including the politics of everyday
life, transportation, health, population goals, and open space. Materials include correspondence, reports, flyers, brochures,
news clippings, news releases, and articles. Much of the material is related to "UCI Project 21," an organization of business
and government leaders interested in helping Orange County prepare for the future through its study projects in areas such
as urban planning, housing, and environmental quality.
The University of California began offering University Extension programs in Orange County in 1959, six years before the opening
of the University of California, Irvine campus. These programs were coordinated from the University of California, Los Angeles
campus until the Irvine campus opened in September 1965.
