Professional papers of George and Louise Spindler pertaining to their research, publications, courses taught, and departmental matters; papers include correspondence, memoranda, articles, course materials, case studies, research proposals, and photographs. Their research interests included the Menominee Indians of Wisconsin, the Blood and Cree Indians of Canada, ethnography of schooling, and urbanizing villages in Germany.

George Spindler joined the Stanford faculty in 1950, as professor of anthropology and education. Louise Spindler earned the first Ph.D. in anthropology awarded by Stanford in 1956 and remained with the department as lecturer and research associate. They retired in 1978, but continued to teach occasional classes.
