Description
The Program in Social Ecology Records, University of California, Irvine, document the daily administrative activities and
the curriculum of the precursor to the School of Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine. The administrative
materials include annual reports, personnel files, inventories and agendas, minutes, correspondence, and reports from various
campus and University of California systemwide organizations. The curriculum records include budgets, status reports, program
descriptions, field study reports, and descriptions of special programs.
Background
The Program in Social Ecology, which was incorporated as an academic unit at the University of California, Irvine on January
1, 1970, was conceived and designed as a new approach to education aimed toward the development of solutions to the ongoing
problems of society. The program was developed to be interdisciplinary in nature and involved with the community, allowing
students to do field studies with various community organizations.
