Description
The bulk of the material in this collection consists of studies, reports, and other publications that the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health has either issued or commissioned, 1960-1992.
Background
The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health was created in 1960, by an ordinance of the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors, upon recommendation of the Mental Health Advisory Board. The purpose of the new Department was to operate under the provisions of the Short-Doyle Act, with an initial budget of $1,000,000. The Department has continued to grow and now stands as one of the larger in the nation.
