Record Series 61 contains the by-laws, catalogs, and manuals of the Academic Senate, Los Angeles Division from 1923 and 1959
to 1975.
Background
The Academic Senate was codified in 1920 and an unique part of the University of California system. It serves as a "vehicle"
through which the faculty participates in the shared governance of the university. The Senate is composed of "ladder-rank"
(tenured or tenured-rank) faculty and the deans, provosts, chancellor, and president of the university.
