Description
The digital Orange County Public Library Local History Collection contains images documenting the history and development
of the Orange County communities of Silverado and Laguna Beach, and surrounding areas, from 1891 to 1989. The Silverado and
Silverado Canyon area images include portraits of pioneers and pioneer families, as well as later residents, including cafe
owner Tommy Beauleau. Several photographs show Black Star Canyon and grinding stones used there by early Native American
inhabitants. There are photographs related to the economic activities of the Silverado area, with views of cafes, stores,
farms, ranches, and mines, including images of Tommy's Cafe, Hidden Valley Ranch, and the Blue Light Mine. School activities
in the area are portrayed in views of Silverado School. There are photographs related to the Silverado Volunteer Fire Dept.
and to Silverado area natural disasters, including fires, landslides, and floods. The Laguna Beach area images include portraits
of local artist Anna Hills and of the official Laguna Beach greeter, Eiler Larsen. Other Laguna Beach area topics include
local pageants, the Laguna Beach Art Association, the Sawdust Art Festival, Pomona College Marine Laboratory, and protest
demonstrations in the 1960's.
