Description
The Evelyn Lockman Papers document the career of an internationally recognized modern, jazz, and world dance performer and teacher. The collection includes correspondence, San Diego State University Department of Dance and Theatre materials, international and national professional activities, professional writings, teaching material, photographs, scrapbooks, and newspaper clippings.  The papers are arranged in six series: Biographical Materials, Correspondence, Writings, Professional Activities, Teaching Materials, and Photographs.
Background
Evelyn Elizabeth Lockman, professor of dance at San Diego State University from 1948-1977, was instrumental in establishing the dance major at SDSU. Lockman was an internationally known dancer and choreographer, who promoted dance arts, and received many awards for her performances and teaching.
