Description
Helen Amestoy was a librarian at the Los Angeles County Public Library, and a member of the first graduating class of UCLA's
School of Library Science. This collection consists of letters, clippings, and other ephemera regarding Lawrence Clark Powell
and UCLA's Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.
Background
Helen Amestoy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in the History of Art and her Master's of Library Science degree from UCLA.
She was a member of the first graduating class of UCLA's School of Library Science. Amestoy began her career at the UCLA Engineering
Library. She later moved to the Los Angeles County Public Library, where she worked for twenty-five years. She served as president
of the California Society of Librarians in 1982 and was honored as Librarian of the Year by the Los Angeles County Library
in 1980. She passed away on July 8, 2004.
