Record Series 22 contains the financial records of the Los Angeles State Normal School.
Establishment of a State Normal School in Los Angeles was authorized in 1881, due to growing demand and limited space at the
only other State Normal School, first opened in San Francisco in 1862 but moved to San Jose in 1870. By 1913 six more branches
had been added to the system. In 1919, an act of legislation made the Los angeles branch part of the University of California.
The other branches of the State Normal School system form what is not the California State University system.
