McKinlay.

Scope and Content
These papers, collected by H. H. Bancroft for his history of California, consist mainly of Alviso family
documents, many of them relating to the sale of cattle, tallow and hides, and to early government in San
Jose. Also included are some miscellaneous papers of John B. R. Cooper, Mariano G. Vallejo, Thomas O.
Larkin and James McKinlay.
Bancroft's numbering and arrangement of the papers, roughly chronological, have been retained. A list of
the documents is included, followed by a list of correspondents, addressees (other than members of the
Alviso family), and/or signers of documents.
