    Acquisition Information

    The Papers of Dr. Bland were purchased by the Bancroft Library in January 1959 from Mrs. Gwendolen Penniman, his literary executor.

    Biography Note

    Dr. Bland, poet, professor of English at San Jose College, 1899 until his death, and poet laureate of California, 1928-1931.

    Scope and Content Note

    The papers, covering the years, 1905-1931, consist primarily of correspondence with other poets and authors; manuscripts of his poems, short stories and essays; notebooks; clippings and scrapbooks; photographs; and some printed items.
